If you've ever looked through a kaleidoscope, you've seen how mirror symmetry can be used to transform a simple picture into a complex and beautiful pattern. Here we will explore some of the mathematical ideas underlying two-dimensional symmetries. We'll create our own rosette patterns with rotational and kaleidoscopic symmetry, explore the connections between the two sorts of symmetry, and use this knowledge to help us to classify the symmetry types of wallpaper patterns.
