Curved from Straight: Origami Twists and Bends

presented by Brie Finegold

We know that many platonic solids can be made from origami, but what about curves? We will create curves and twists from folding large pieces of paper, discuss applications, and consider how art, mathematics, and engineering intersect: see this video. If you are looking for something more to watch, consider the documentary Between The Folds about origami (free to Amazon Prime members). You can also take a look at the short tutorial on origami tesselations: see this tutorial. More specifically, we will talk about the ideas of dimension, area, and transformation that pop up as we fold and relate directly to the common core math standards.
