Paper 1: Literature
Review

Choose a
mathematical concept that you believe is difficult to teach at the middle or
high school level.

Examine at least
three texts that explore that concept at lower and higher levels.

Write a report
describing your readings and explaining how the current mathematics
curriculum supports (or doesnŐt support)

the development
of this concept. Use other references to support your argument.

Give a short
class presentation to summarize the readings and your conclusions.

Paper 2:
Project

Design a series
of lessons or a project that illustrates one of the concepts presented in
this course at the middle or high school level.

In particular,
show how the core concepts from these advanced mathematical ideas can be used
as part of the middle school

and high school
curriculum.

Use other
references to support your argument. Give a short class presentation on your
lessons or project.

You may choose
to make this paper an extension of your first paper, or choose an entirely
different topic.
